Ted Stevens Plane Crash
Unfortunately, the ninja has to report some sad news. Theodore “Ted” Fulton Stevens has died in a plane crash.
Born November 18, 1923 Ted was a United States Senator from Alaska, serving from December 24, 1968, until January 3, 2009. This makes him the longest serving Republican senator in history. The only other person to serve in the Senate longer was Strom Thurmond, but he was a Democrat.
Ted Stevens was Alaska’s senior senator for all but 10 days of his tenure. Ted died in a plane crash last night, however, it’s not yet been officially confirmed.
Other sources close to Ted, Dave Dittman, an Anchorage pollster and close friend of Senator, said that he received a phone call during the night that Stevens was dead. Still Dittman told the Daily News this morning it hasn’t been confirmed.
“That’s what I heard last night, but it’s not been confirmed,” Dittman said. “I’ve talked to family members this morning and people with the family who said it hasn’t been confirmed to them either.”
The plane that Senator Stevens was flying in was a DeHavilland DHC-3T with the tail number N455A. The plane reportedly went down 10 miles northwest of Aleknagik, Alaska.
Here is another photo of Ted’s plane.
