If you have heard the name Topper Shutt you are probably asking yourself if that is his real name. And if his parents could really be that cruel. Honestly, as far as names go it isn’t that bad. And once you’ve heard it you will not easily forget it.
So what is his real name then?

I am sure that he has been asked more than a couple of times about the origin of his name and if it is in fact his birth name or if it is something he thought up. His colleagues have even asked him about it on air.
If you aren’t familiar with Topper Shutt let’s recap. He first found fame in 1981 working as a weather man for CNN in Atlanta, Georgia. From there he has worked in North Carolina and Tennessee.
And he is currently the Cheif Meteorologist for WUSA Channel 9 in Washington DC. As well as the forecaster for WHUR-FM.
He has also been a fill in on the “This Morning” airing on CBS. His run on CBS lasted 1994 until 2000.
But that still doesn’t explain his real name, though it might explain why he has become so popular.
Topper as gone on the record about the origin of his name when he was asked a completely non-weather related question by somebody in the studio: “Is Topper Shutt your real name? Is there a story behind it?”
Good humored he replied: “Yes. Yes, there must be but Mom and Dad have not shared it with me. Topper is also my Dad’s nickname but my real name.”
And now you know the secret, you know his real first name and you’ve known it all along. His parents had a twisted sense of humor.
